These two half-day training courses will equip you with the skills and resources you need to introduce and deliver quality, cross-curricula primary Mandarin Chinese lessons straight away. You will learn the language skills you need to follow the 25 step-by-step lesson plans; explore the activity packs/support materials and get hands on experience of playing the two card games included in the package.

Learning outcomes:

• Understand the main differences between Chinese and English and the implications for teaching at primary level;
• Understand how the Oracle Bones Memory Match and Ling Activity Packs link to primary history and maths curricula;
• Know two Chinese specific language learning strategies;
• Be able to recognise 20 basic Chinese characters from Oracle Bones Memory Match;
• Be able to listen and match the pronunciation of up to 20 words from Oracle Bones Memory Match to the correct character;
• Recognise Chinese number characters for numbers 0-10;
• Be able to say numbers 1-10 in Mandarin;  
• Understand how learning numbers helps with learning the days of the week and months of the year;
• Know how to play Oracle Bones Memory Match and Ling card games;
• Know how to adapt the resources to suit the needs of children in your class and maximise learning opportunities;
• Know where to look for additional support with learning and teaching oracy skills.

All participating teachers receive (per institution): 

• 5 decks of Oracle Bones Memory Match card game + Teacher’s Activity pack including 10 step by step lesson plans/classroom materials, 40 A4 flashcards, powerpoint.
• 5 decks of Ling number sequencing card game, + Teacher’s Activity pack including 15 step by step lesson plans/classroom materials, 33 A4 flashcards, powerpoint.
